History

Heavenhill, built in the 1890s has survived “progress” and the ever so changing landscape of Granbury… dirt roads to paved streets. Water and electricity! A lake! Small town square to big box stores galore, HOA developments… the list goes on. But there she stands. She was built with simplicity and necessity in mind. Originally just two rooms, Heavenhill was doubled in size in the early 1900s when the back half of the home was moved from Thorp Springs to the present site.

Just think… Instead of running to the local big box store for lumber you harnessed your horse to the wagon and visited the saw mill or gathered scraps from whatever you can find (wooden crates from the depot make great walls!). The square nails were hand forged in a blacksmith shop (most likely from just down the street!). She has only had 3-4 owners before Shelbie completely renovated the home in 2012.

One special owner was William Heavenhill.  He bought the back portion of the home, originally built in Thorp Springs, from the Millers. The Heavenhills and Millers were friends. They had many things in common but the most important bond was most likely Education. When building the little shotgun house they decided to write on the bead board:

Little Louise Miller and Josephine Heavenhill.
Stole a Kiss Studying with Edgar.
Cross of the Heart. Jan. 1, 1893.
